RALLY TOPS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Hardtop Type: 1-Piece Removable Hardtop
Truck Model: Suzuki Samurai (1986-1995)

Instructions – Safety

Your Rally Tops Hardtop will come with all the necessary parts to complete your installation. To safely lift and install this hardtop, you will need the assistance of at least one other person. The following instructions are examples of the installation. Please follow the instructions that are included with your Rally Top.

REMEMBER: It is the owner’s responsibility to insure proper installation and perform monthly maintenance checks of fasteners. Doing so will assure safe operation and long life of your upper hard doors.

Instructions – Warning

WARNING: The top on this vehicle is designed only for additional protection against the elements. Do not rely on the top to contain occupants within the vehicle or to protect against intrusion of foreign objects, nor injury during an accident. Make sure all brackets and screws are tight. Periodically check for tightness and retighten when necessary. Wear seat belts at all times.

Parts Provided:

  • Four (4) latch hooks
  • Weather stripping
  • Four (4) 1 1/8” washers
  • Two (2) 6 mm nylon locknuts
  • Two (2) M6 x 20 mm pan head phillips
  • Four (4) M6 x 35 mm socket cap screws

Tools/Materials Required:

  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • 11 mm wrench
  • M6 Allen wrench
  • 1 tube of silicone sealant

Instructions:

Follow the instructions and perform the steps in the sequence given. Shortcuts to the directions may result in an unsatisfactory installation.

STEP 1: REMOVE SOFT TOP

  • Remove soft top.
  • Remove rear roof bow.
  • Remove soft top retainer strips on the left and right side of roof bar.
  • Remove soft top retainer on the top of the windshield.
  • Remove pads from window bars.
  • Carefully store soft top and all parts for future use.
  • Remove rear passenger assist handles from driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. Use these screws to attach latch clips in steps 4 & 5.

STEP 2: APPLY SILICONE BEAD

  • Above window bars at the intersection of the windshield and at the intersection of the roll bar.
  • Along the edge of the support corners at the base of the roll bar and the rear quarter panel on both sides.
  • Along the back edge of the spare tire mount.

STEP 3: INSTALL WEATHER STRIPING

  • Using weather stripping provided, install one piece vertically down the driver’s side on the roof bar, 1/4” in from the outside edge of the body.
  • Repeat the same procedure for the passenger side.
  • Install weather stripping on the tops of the window bars from front to back.

STEP 4: INSTALL FRONT LATCH HOOKS

  • Using two (2) screws saved from the passenger assist handles, install 2 of the 4 latch hooks provided in the factory tapped holes in the windshield frame next to the support bars. Mount latches with screw at the bottom of the latch.
  • CAUTION: Do Not Crease Panels by Jerking or Pulling Too Hard!

STEP 5: INSTALL REAR LATCH HOOKS

  • Pull back panel of the rear quarter at 45° angle to allow for installation of clips.
  • Remove the 2nd clip forward from the tail gate on the passenger’s side.
  • Using a phillips screwdriver, punch a hole through the vinyl and masonite board, where the clip is located. The hole must be in line with the hole in the body, where it originally snapped in. Do not attempt to drill a hole, as the vinyl will damage and tear.
  • Using the locknut provided, reach inside and hold the nut in line with the hole. Insert the long screw saved from the passenger assist handle through the latch hook and through the vinyl side panel. Start the screw by hand. Then hold it with the wrench and tighten the screw with the latch hook pointing straight up.
  • Remove the wrench and re-snap the last clip toward the tail gate.
  • Repeat this procedure for the driver’s side.
  • CAUTION: Be Sure All 4 Attach Points are Securely Fastened

STEP 6: INSTALL THE HARDTOP

  • Open rear door on the hardtop.
  • Set the hardtop on the vehicle body and ensure the the camlocks are not caught under the hardtop.
  • Ensure the hardtop is aligned with the body.
  • Engage the camlocks into the hooks. Camlocks may be adjusted by screwing the hook in of out as necessary. This will ensure a snug fit.
  • Using four (4) M6 x 35 mm socket cap screws provided, replace both rear passenger assist handles and tighten the screws securely. If you no longer have the assist handles, use the provided washers with the cap screws.
  • Two (2) keys are provided for the lift door and are located on the inside of the window lock shafts.
  • IMPORTANT: All Machine Screws Must Be Checked Periodically For Tightness
