The Suzuki Samurai was introduced in 1986, and this little mighty mite was Japan’s answer to the Jeep. The 66 horsepower 1.3 liter engine came only with a 5-speed manual transmission.

An on-demand, part time 4-wheel-drive system was standard. Manual-locking front hubs were also standard, but dealers could install automatic locking hubs.

When the Suzuki Samurai hit showrooms it was an instant attention getter, and people flocked to get a view of this dynamic pint sized 4×4.

    Good morning

I would like to buy a 1-Piece Removable Hardtop for Suzuki Samurai for my Samurai.
My car was build in 1999 and this is Spanish version 1,9 TD.
Could you confirm if this will fit to my car.
If necessary I can send a picture of my Samurai, but I will need an email address.

  3. Junior lacle

I would buy 2 removable tops for my Samurai in the next following month, but perhaps I add a back light and some small parts too. I would wanna know how long it’ll take.

  4. Alex Earl (verified owner)

The hardtop fit perfectly and only took an hour or so to install on my own. Definitely worth the 10 week wait. The freight company that delivered it was also very nice and I didn’t have any issues, it arrived in only a few days.

    Thanks!

  5. Gilbert Huffman

I’ve had my rally top on my 86 Suzuki Samurai for around 11 years now and it has been a premier product. I’m pretty confident it will go another 11 years. The only hardtop issue in 11 years was a loose rivet on the rear window. Well done.

  6. Michael Jolibois

Company was helpful to work with and kept me updated on progress. They even held it so it wouldn’t be delivered when I was away for a holiday. As for the top itself: overall it is well made and looks great. I do have a few points of detraction though.

When installing this hardtop, it felt as though the top had to “stretch” in the sense that it needed to hook over the front lip above the windshield then be firmly pulled down into place behind the B-pillars. It felt like there would be a lot of stress introduced to the frame of the top trying to get it to seat well against the surfaces. But that could be due to my Samurai being 40+ years old and having slightly shifted.

I have had it on my Samurai for a little over a year, and so far the fiberglass/plastic outer surface and the inner headliner still look brand new. However, a few months after owning I noticed the driver’s side window gasket pulling out of its seating. I don’t think it is leaking (yet) as we have had several heavy rain days and I have not noticed water leaking down that side.

The other big issue is the tailgate/rear window gap. There is a considerable space between the tailgate door and the rear window when closed. The window sits inside tailgate and does not necessarily touch it, rendering the strip of rubber along the bottom rather useless for keeping water out. There are also larger holes on either side at the bottom of the window. I attempted to put some rubber on the tailgate, but it does not work. As such I have a bit leaking in, especially when facing downhill.

I do realize that it being a removable top, that water tight may not be completely possible, but the amount of water leaking in was enough to get everything damp in the back. I think, for what these cost, some additional measures for trying to seal these areas and make sure the gaskets last longer than a few months would be nice.

All of that being said, it is an improvement over the previous two piece hard top, and gives a little extra headroom. I have the roof rack and tail light. The rack is proving it’s worth, the tail light has not yet been connected, but does seem to fill with water, which might be a concern.
